As we continue to grow our engineering team, we're looking for an experienced Technical Lead who can ensure code quality, review development work, guide developers, and maintain strong technical standards across projects.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Lead – Code Quality & Review with 6–8 years of hands-on software development experience to ensure high coding standards and engineering best practices across our development projects.
The primary responsibility of this role is to independently review code written by developers, identify potential issues relating to code quality, security, performance, maintainability, and adherence to established coding standards.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in PHP, Laravel, CodeIgniter, and MySQL, with an excellent understanding of clean code principles, OOP, SOLID principles, design patterns, and secure coding practices.
The candidate should be capable of reviewing complex implementations, providing constructive feedback, and helping developers consistently produce high-quality, maintainable code.
What You'll Do
Code Quality Review: Review developers' code to ensure it is clean, efficient, readable, reusable, and maintainable.
Coding Standards: Ensure adherence to PHP best practices, Laravel and CodeIgniter conventions, SOLID principles, OOP, MVC, and appropriate design patterns.
Security Review: Identify potential vulnerabilities, improper validation, insecure queries, and authentication or authorization weaknesses.
Performance Review: Detect inefficient SQL queries, N+1 queries, unnecessary loops, redundant database calls, and performance bottlenecks.
Logic & Error Handling: Identify logical errors, unhandled exceptions, edge cases, and inadequate error handling.
Jira Technical Review: Verify that technical requirements, acceptance criteria, and edge cases are sufficiently clear before development begins.
Pull Request Review: Review code changes, provide actionable feedback, and ensure critical issues are resolved before merging.
Testing Standards: Verify adequate unit and integration test coverage, particularly for critical business logic.
Developer Guidance: Explain code review findings and mentor developers to prevent recurring mistakes.
Continuous Improvement: Identify recurring code quality issues and improve coding guidelines, review checklists, and automated quality checks.
What You Bring
Strong expertise in PHP, Laravel and CodeIgniter frameworks.
Excellent knowledge of Core PHP, OOP concepts, MVC architecture, and design patterns.
Strong SQL and MySQL knowledge, including complex queries, joins, indexing, and query optimization.
Proven experience in reviewing code written by other developers.
Strong understanding of REST APIs, backend architecture, authentication, and security practices.
Experience with Git, branching strategies, pull requests, and code merge processes.
Ability to identify inefficient code, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide practical technical solutions.
Ability to mentor developers and maintain consistent coding standards across projects.
Good to Have
Experience with AWS, DigitalOcean, or other cloud platforms.
Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
Experience with Redis, caching, and performance optimization.
Exposure to React, JavaScript, or other frontend technologies.
Experience working with multiple client projects in an IT services environment.
